INS Vikramaditya to be based in Karnataka

In yet another development regarding the INS Vikramaditya ex Admiral Gorshkov, Navy officials told PTI that in future the INS Vikramaditya will be based at Indian Naval Station Kadamba, Karwar, Karnataka. This naval base was commissioned in 2005 under project seabird.

Karwar will also be home to a Naval Air Base for basing and operation of fixed and rotary-wing military aircraft, this is part of phase-II of Project Seabird. Another Naval base is planned to come up in the eastern shore of Andhra Pradesh near Vishakapatnam, while Karwar is to strengthen the western shores the upcoming base will be for eastern shores. Under the Phase-II of the Project, Karwar will get an armament depot, dockyard complex and missile silos, apart from additional jetties, berthing and anchorage facilities
