US lobbies Brazil over combat fighter procurement

The Brazilian government will shortly announce the winner of the tender to supply the aircraft, worth USD4.7 billion, in which Boeing is in competition with the French Dassault Rafale and Swedish Saab Gripen NG. Panetta confirmed that Brazil would receive advanced technology transfer from the US - a key Brazilian demand in its procurement doctrine - should it opt for Boeing, pitching heavily that such an offer was "reserved for only our closest allies and partners"
