The UK's Commando Helicopter
Force (CHF) will have replaced its ageing Westland Sea King HC.4 and Lynx
AH.7/9A platforms for the AgustaWestland Merlin HC.3/3A and the land-based
variant of AW159 Lynx Wildcat respectively by 2016, a senior CHF official
confirmed to IHS Jane's in mid-March. Speaking aboard the re-roled helicopter
carrier HMS Illustrious during Exercise 'Cold Response 2012' off Norway, the
commander of the deployed tailored air group and commanding officer of 846
Naval Air Squadron (NAS), Lieutenant Colonel Jaimie Roylance, spelled out the
transition process
