USN demonstrates fuel blend on operational fleet ship


The Oliver Hazard Perry-class frigate USS Ford (FFG 54) arrived at Naval Base San Diego in California on 2 March after travelling from its homeport at Naval Station Everett in Washington state powered by a 50-50 blend of drop-in biofuel and conventional marine fuel. In the US Navy's (USN's) first demonstration of an alternative fuel blend in an operational fleet ship, the guided-missile frigate consumed the entire sample of 25,000 US gallons of 50-50 hydro-processed algal oil and petroleum F-76 while transiting the 938 n miles
