Lieutenant General Burton Field, commander of US Forces Japan(USFJ) and the 5th Air Force, has confirmed plans to station the MV-22 Osprey tilt-rotor vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) transport aircraft at the controversial US Marine Corps (USMC) air station at Futenma in Okinawa Prefecture, Japan, during this year as part of an ongoing replacement of the USMC's ageing CH-46 Sea Knight helicopter fleet. "The aircraft will replace the CH-46 stationed in Okinawa," Gen Field told reporters at the Foreign Correspondents' Club of Japan on 15 March
