India expands local content in 'Kilo' upgrades


A modernisation programme for the Indian Navy's (IN's) Sindhughosh-class (Project 877EKM/'Kilo') submarines is making greater use of components manufactured locally or sourced from Western suppliers to local specifications. While an early upgrade saw the Russian-built submarines retrofitted with Indian-produced main batteries optimised for tropical operations, more recent efforts have involved the integration of indigenously-developed combat system equipment
