Israel's first AIP submarine enters water

The first of possibly three air-independent propulsion (AIP)-equipped submarines on order for the Israel Navy (IN) was launched by German shipbuilder Howaldtswerke-Deutsche Werft (HDW) on 19 February. The as-yet unnamed Batch 2 Dolphin-class (Type 800) boat was lowered into the water by shiplift at the company's Kiel yard, having emerged from construction two days earlier
