Post-tsunami review highlights Japanese capability gaps

While the Japan Self-Defence Forces (JSDF) responded well to the 11 March 2011 earthquake and tsunami, an ongoing review has highlighted capability gaps in transportation, unmanned aerial systems and communications equipment a Ministry of Defence (MoD) official told IHS Jane's on 9 March. The JSDF led disaster relief efforts on Japan's northeastern coast after the 9.0 magnitude earthquake and tsunami killed 15,000 people and left 4,000 missing
